The Perfect Photographer Choosing a photographer is one of the most important decisions to make when planning a wedding. You will look at your wedding photographs for years to come and you definitely want them to be a perfect representation of your day! There are a million questions to ask when choosing a photographer. Here are a few of the most important to help guide you through the process: 1. Can I see a complete sample wedding? This is one of the most important questions to ask. Most photographers will be able to show you a large portfolio during a sit down consultation. Make sure that you see a complete sample wedding in the style or styles that you are thinking about using for your own wedding. This will give you a good idea of what to expect when your wedding is photographed. 2. May I see a sample of photographs from the photographer that will be at my wedding ? Many companies employ a number of photographers so you will want to ensure that you do not just look at a company portfolio. Make sure that you take a look at work done by the photographer who will be present on your special day. 3. What types of photographic styles do you do? Do I have the option to have photographs taken in a few styles or must I commit to one? Wedding photos are no longer limited to the standard posed shots. You will now hear photographers use terms like photojournalistic or naturalistic. These words describe the trend in wedding photography that is leaning toward a more natural, “in the moment”, style of wedding photography. Images in this style capture the wedding party and guests in their natural state. Make sure you ask your photographer about these styles as they produce truly unique and beautiful photographs. 4. Do you use film or digital photography? Do I have a choice as to which one you use? With digital technology being so widely used, many photographers have abandoned film altogether. Be careful about this as technology can malfunction. Ask your photographer what their backup plan is. 5. When can I expect proofs? Once I have chosen prints how long will I have to wait before I receive them? Once the excitement of the wedding and honeymoon is over you will be anxious to look at your proofs and begin putting together albums. The amount of time it takes to get proofs varies from one photographer to the next so make sure and ask about it. 6. How much of a deposit do you require? Most photographers require a percent or set dollar amount to hold their services for a date. This is important information for budgeting your wedding so make sure that this, and all other financial details are clear to all involved parties well before the wedding. 7. What type of training, certification, and experience do you have? Most professional photographers are members of associations that can vouch for their experience and quality of work. 8. Are your advertised packages flexible? Can I customize them and use add-ons to meet my needs? Many photographers advertise packages as a way of giving potential clients an idea of what types of prints they should consider. Other photographers only build custom packages. Either way, seriously consider what sizes, types, and amounts of photographs you will require. Most photographers will be happy to accommodate you. The importance of the photographer at your wedding cannot be overstated. Wedding photographs are keepsakes that will be cherished for years. Choose your photographer carefully. And remember, relax and smile! Your wedding will develop beautifully. |
